Cris Velasco: Composer working in
multiple disciplines:

Cris is one of the most in-demand composers in the video game industry. An accomplished classical and rock guitarist, Velasco is a graduate of the famed UCLA School of Music with a degree in Music Composition. In 2003 he was asked to score the game “Battlestar Galactica.” Following this he worked on other major game titles including the next-gen horror game “Clive Barker’s Jericho” and the award-winning “God of War” series.

In 2005, Velasco joined forces with composer/sound designer Sascha Dikiciyan. Together, the two have collaborated on more than 25 game titles in the past five years including “Mass Effect 2: Kasumi's Stolen Memo,” “Prototype,” “Borderlands,” “Haze,” “Dark Messiah,” and “Hellgate: London.”

An extraordinarily versatile composer, Velasco also writes original soundtracks for films, and he scores commercials for high-profile clients such as Toyota, Disney, Patron, Staples, and Mattel. His music has been used by New Wave Entertainment, NFL Films, Nickelodeon, the NBA, and the Family Channel, to name a few. He was also recently selected to write the new Monday Night Football theme for ESPN.

At the forefront of latest production techniques and state-of-the-art technologies, Velasco’s many awards include the AIAS and BAFTA Awards for Best Original Score.

70 DVZ Strings has totally changed the way I think about my compositions. In the past, I’d have to approach a piece based on whether or not I was going to be able to record it with live strings. If not, I’d have to compose around the limitations in my sample collection. Very frustrating! DVZ allows me, for the first time, to think about the music First, and not have to worry if the samples can pull it off — they’ve got the goods. A new world of musical possibilities has opened up to me!”
