Copyright & Licensing: Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly am I purchasing?
When you purchase an Audio Impressions Realtime DVZ Instruments library or library package, or download software updates which may be made available for downloading, you are not obtaining ownership of the sound samples or the software. Instead you are purchasing a license to use the Ai software, the Ai sampled sounds, and to control those sound samples and to use the resulting sounds within your musical compositions. It is irrelevant whether your compositions are released commercially. Audio Impressions (or its business successors) will always retain ownership of the sound samples; you will own the music you create using those samples.
Audio Impressions makes no representations herein as to the suitability, licensing terms or ownership of any third-party hardware or software that may be used in association with our system, including but not limited to audio interfaces, network components, cabling, computers, computer operating systems, host software, communications software, and client-server software. However, any hardware and software provided to you as part of a turn-key system or software bundle from Audio Impressions or one of our authorized resellers is guaranteed to function, as represented in our manual and our official sales literature, when delivered and so long as no changes are made in the configuration, version, or installation of said turn-key system or bundle; this functional guarantee does not cover installation of unauthorized hardware or software, or modification of the hardware, software or operating system on any such system.
Are the samples royalty free?
Yes. You may use the sound samples in combination with other sounds within your musical compositions. You may release such compositions commercially, without payment of any further fees or royalties for such usage. For example, if you are the original purchaser of an Audio Impressions Realtime DVZ Instruments sample library, and you use the sound samples from it to create the soundtrack of a television commercial or a track on a music CD then regardless of how many CDs are sold or how many times the television commercial is broadcast, you will never have to pay Audio Impressions any additional royalties or license fees, because you already purchased a license to use the sound samples commercially.
Are there any restrictions to use of the samples?
You cannot use the sounds in isolation (i.e. when they are not used within musical compositions) as part of a commercially released project. For example, you cannot use the sounds to make another Sample library, or include them as individual sound samples which, in turn, could be used to create music via distribution on a multimedia CD or DVD, gaming machine, toy or any equivalent method of commercial distribution. unless the samples are used in a musical composition created by you, you cannot upload any Audio Impressions sound samples (or Audio Impressions control software) to any database or server.
Who else can use the sounds on the library (or libraries) that I have purchased?
Nobody, unless they also purchased the same Audio Impressions library. Only the original purchaser has the right to use the sound samples. The purchaser cannot give or sell purchased sounds to anyone else. If this restriction is ignored, and a third party uses the Audio Impressions sounds within a commercial release, they, or anyone associated with the distribution of the music, risk legal action and consequent significant financial and business damages that would far outweigh the cost of purchasing a license. Legitimate composers understand it is simply not worth using unlicensed sounds.
May I use any of Ai's logos on my CD or DVD sleeve, etc?
Your purchased library license grants you permission to cite Audio Impressions, DVZ®, SPACE®, and the DVZ Realtime Instruments libraries by name or logo on any project you create using our samples, provided you correctly attribute these logos and include their pertinent trademark ™ or registered trademark ® symbols. If you wish to use one of our logos, you may contact us to obtain high quality art and usage guidelines, which we'll promptly provide at no charge. And of course if you appreciated using our product, we will appreciate any 'plug.'
